In what looks to be a move to improve the technical depth of the Red’s midfield, they have signed Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on loan for one season.
The Brazilian midfielder formerly was a Barcelona player, in which he was expected to be a major piece in an important new era for the squad. However, he found his way to Italy when he was sold to Juventus for roughly 77m alongside a swap with Pjanic going back the other way.
Arthur is known for his technical ability and versatility. Being able to play in in as a box to box, attacking, and even holding midfielder. But his technical ability is where he shines, when given the ability to pass and create opportunity. These are key aspects that he still has and can develop, but did not show during his time in Juventus.
Arthur has struggled at Juventus, but looks to revitalize his career in England.
Given Liverpool’s noticeable struggles in the midfield without Thiago or fellow Brazilian Fabhino, Arthur will be able to provide even more depth to a Liverpool side looking to challenge for the title this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side is also known to be well versed and smart in regards to transfers, given their expenditure of near 100m for striker Darwin Nunez, bringing in a quality player in Arthur on loan shows a willingness to get better, while also not overpaying. Klopp has also been known to get the most value of out his players specifically in the midfield, such as James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum. Arthur looks to be the same.
This move ultimately looks to be one that helps both the new club and the player. Arthur gets a chance to prove himself and show his worth after his struggles at Juventus, meanwhile Liverpool get to add depth, and potentially find great value from a player for the season. If it doesn’t work out, its a one season loan commitment that is little to no risk.
