The first major new acquisition in Brad Treliving’s Toronto Maple Leaf regime comes with some extra beef, as they acquired UFA Ryan Reaves on a 3 year deal with an AAV of $1.35 Million a season.
Reaves spent last season split with Minnesota and the New York Rangers where he suited up in 73 games in total and posted 5 goals and 15 points (all in Minnesota) and will most likely spend his time in Toronto playing on the team’s fourth line. New GM Brad Treliving evidently would like to see his club get a little more physical up front and bringing in Reaves will certainly help to make his fourth line that much tougher.
Coming in at 6’2 and 225 lbs, Reaves will bring in a lot of brute force to a Leaf team who have been fairly, or unfairly, labeled as a smaller, weaker team, as he will be set to become the first UFA signing the Leafs will make once the 12:00 PM EST Free Agency signing season opens.
