As news broke today that Ivan Miroshnichenko’s deal with his KHL club, there was speculation that he would be getting signed by the Capitals later this week.
However, has just broke in the same day that Miroshnichenko was signed to his NHL entry-level deal by the Washington Capitals.
Miroshnichenko was selected with the 20th pick last year in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Capitals. The draft year for the young Russian was difficult as he was diagnosed wit Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February of that year, which ended his season and ultimately could be argued that it impacted his draft stock as he was projected to be selected earlier.
However, the left winger seems have had a successful KHL season last year and could be the “youth” that the Capitals team looks to inject into the roster. Given Miroshnichenko’s natural large size, strength, and finishing, he looks to be a prospect that may have significant upside capabilities with this Capitals team.
