Chelsea continue to make waves during the 2023 winter transfer window, this time bringing in much lauded English winger Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven for a reported €35 million.
Madueke is a 20 year old right winger who joined the PSV U17’s from Tottenham’s Youth Developmental Team in 2018, and has made 80 appearances for the Dutch side, as well as over 30 youth team appearances through PSV’s ranks.
He has netted 34 goal involvements for the club including 20 goals while playing primarily on the right flank for PSV, but he has also on occasion played through the middle on his own or as a shadow striker.
While on the wing he could be considered as more of an “Inverted Winger” by tending to cut in onto his stronger left foot, while also tending to play short and into the middle of the pitch with his midfield as he is lacking in crossing capabilities.
January has been a busy month for Graham Potter and the Chelsea board as they have already secured the signings of Mykhailo Mudryk, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana on permanent deals while also securing a loan move for the former wonderkid and Atletíco Madrid castaway Joao Felix.
For new owner Todd Boehly, he has seen his side dish out over €170 million in January alone bringing in this crop of new talent to Stamford Bridge, as reinforcements have been sorely needed for Potter’s side as they sit in 10th place, tied on points with Liverpool.
It remains to be seen whether any of these new signings will help Chelsea generate any ground in England, especially after Felix was sent off on his debut against Fulham, shortly after scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-1 defeat.
