Emotions are running high for the Maple Leafs following a 3-2 OT victory against the Dallas Stars, where young forward Nick Robertson notched 2 goals in his season debut; including the overtime winner. The matchup was a family affair with Nick’s brother Jason Robertson emerging as an elite forward for the visiting Stars and their parents in attendance to celebrate the moment. Nick got his chance on the Maple Leafs 2nd-line on the heels of a controversial yet uninspiring 4-3 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday. Forward Denis Malgin was the victim of Robertson’s promotion, the former of whom scored against Montreal in the season opener but failed to find the scoresheet in 3 games since.
4 games into their season the Jets boast a 2-2-0 record that in the context of their opposition thus far; is respectable. Wins against the Rangers and Avalanche speak to Winnipeg’s potential this year whereas lopsided losses to Dallas and Vegas highlight an absence in consistency to this point. The Jets lineup includes a promising forward of its own in Cole Perfetti; the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Perfetti has 1 goal 2 assists to his name while playing in each of the teams 4 games to start the year. Other early standouts for Winnipeg include defender Neal Pionk (4GP/3G/1A/4P) and former Vezina winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (2.65 GAA/.922 SV%).
Following their tilt with the Jets, Toronto will head to Vegas before visiting all three Californian teams to end their road trip. Meanwhile Winnipeg will remain at home and host the St. Louis Blues on Monday.
