Sergino Dest Joins AC Milan on Season-Long Loan with Option to Buy

Sergino Dest is making his way to play with the current Italian champions as AC Milan have agreed to a deal with FC Barcelona for a season long loan with an option to buy at the end.

The fee to purchase the American defender is at €20 million ($19 million) should the Rossoneri decide to pickup the option to buy in the defenders deal.

After making 51 appearances for the Catalan giants since joining from Ajax in 2020, Dest was seemingly out of head coach Xavi’s plans for the foreseeable future as it appears that Sergi Roberto will maintain his place as the clubs starting right back for the season.

This will also be supplemented with the likes of Eric Garcia and Ronald Arajuo who are also able to lineup down the right flank.

Blessed with blistering pace and a keen eye on the attack, it is defending where the right back has struggled in the past, with the 21 year old being caught out on multiple occasions.

The young American will look to compete for time at the San Siro with the weathered Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria both holders of the position last season, but with the injury history of the two fullbacks it was wise for Milan to make sure they supplement that position for Stefano Pioli, who uses the likes of both fullbacks in attacks heavily.

This is the sixth signing of the season for the Rossoneri, joining Charles De Ketelaere, Divock Origi and Malick Thiaw in Milan as they look to put up a strong title defence this season.
