Matchweek 2 already features a battle between two of England’s biggest clubs as we have our first of many London derby’s as Antonio Conte’s Spurs are heading to Stamford Bridge to take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Sunday.
Many eyes were on both teams as they both opened up their seasons with a win.
Spurs made a great first impression this season, courtesy of a 4-1 win over Southampton, and after going down early, Spurs maintained much of the pressure and the chances as their front three of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski stole the show.
Chelsea got past Everton at Goodison Park courtesy of a PK from Jorghino late into the first half-injury time, but Chelsea were able to create some good chances and were unlucky to not get any more.
The last time these two teams met in this fixture back in January last season Chelsea came out 2-0 winners with goals from Ziyech and Thiago Silva.
It will be a big test for both teams with title ambitions on the line as well as the goal of finishing in the top 4 for UCL football next season.
Tuchel will make sure his team maintain a lionshare of the possession, but Conte has his team playing expansive football while creating plenty of chances and one would think with the type of attacking talent on display from the Lilywhites they have a chance at breaking down Chelsea’s defensive regiment of Silva, Azpilicueta and new arrival Koulibaly.
The biggest challenge for Spurs will be how to deal with a very structured and regimented Chelsea team, especially in the midfield with Jorginho and Kante typically locking down the middle of the park before getting the ball forward to the attack.
One thing of note to watch for is the debut for new signing Marc Cucurella for Chelsea as he just recently finalized a $72 million deal from Brighton making him one of the most expensive defenders in EPL history, as the 24 year old Spaniard will look to slot into the defence nicely.
Score Prediction: 2-1 Chelsea.
